You're right! I'm considering writing a post about how when I put people on blast in the blog, I got all manner of emails, tweets, texts because people didn't want me to be mad at them. How about you think of that BEFORE you piss me off. A reason can turn into an excuse if poorly timed.

YES! I absolutely abhor these types of things. If you can't make it, fine, JUST SAY "I CAN'T MAKE IT." No explanation needed. But don't say "Yeah, girl, I'll see you!" and then not call, text, Tweet or send carrier pigeon or whatever else it takes .254 seconds to say "Oh, my bad. Something came up."

I'm thinking of a baby shower I threw for a girlfriend of mine last year. I had 20 (20!) people confirm their attendance, only for those bammas not show up. And nan one of them said "Sorry, couldn't make it." Not one. What pisses me off is that I asked for RSVPs so I could order enough food to feed those raggedy beasts of no nation. I still have half a mind to demand the money for their share of the ridiculous amount of food that was leftover.

You can be on FB, Twitter, et al all day but can't wish your homegirl a happy birthday or congratulate a friend on a new baby? It takes less than a minute, seriously. #ihatepeople

Yeah, I did NOT like the #happybirthdayIguess tag. I'd hoped your day would turn around. :( As you know I am a HUGE proponent of the birthday. People who flake on my birthday without any notice are not given the opportunity to do so again. It may sound pyscho, but I don't play when it comes to my me day! :) We are #Julybabies we deserve THE BEST!

Yup. It is too easy to respond to FB invites and too easy to forget all about them. And: if you have enough FB friends they probably figure that your *real* friends are ... someone else. I have shown up to openings much to the surprise of the artist friend from way back (You invited me. Didn't you?) who posted the opening to one and all on Facebook and totally missed invites to get togethers I would have enjoyed because I was invited on Facebook and I've lost track of all my Facebook invites (I get invited to shows in Beirut and bike rides in Delhi and all manner of films, fundraisers and performances in Brooklyn). I have friends with whom I go back and forth on Twitter all day but when I show up at a book launch party (again, you said ... "come to this" very clearly) don't talk to me or introduce me to anyone and I find myself thinking that I missed some social cue. That the invitation was for ... other people?

Wow, so sorry your bday was a blast. Well, at least we had fun yesterday. LOL It was so great o meet you, and I enjoyed the witty musings in your post. The greatest part is that it ended with a life lesson. One we should all take head.

We'll Happy Belated Birthday from...ME! I, notoriously, hate Facebook (and don't use it personally) and this is a great example of why. To me, social media is an address book, and a one-on-one connector not meant for mass consumption unless you're a company. As an individual, I wouldn't (and don't) trust it as a solid planning tool, unless backed up by phone calls or direct messages. But, that's just me. And I'm notoriously contrary and cynical, even at the ripe old age of 27 :)

Hey lady, I am sorry this happened to you! I'm sorry I couldn't make it and I hope u got my tweet. I've been having a rough time lately and that's why I couldn't come. But I'm sorry that ppl played u like that, it's gotta suck especially since it was ur bday. I hope u were at least able to salvage the night. Throw this into a complaint for the pity party. Happy belated birthday!
